All about me
Hey guys! I'm Laura Forney. I am 22 years old, and loving this journey we call life. I’ve got a lot to say, a ton of time to say it, and I hope you read each and every word. Sometimes, I wonder why people feel the need to constantly rush. I feel if we could all just slow down and take the time to enjoy life we would avoid regrets later on. Im still very young, but I find myself looking over my shoulder at times where I should’ve done things differently. Thats why now I try to live life to the fullest. I may not always do it perfectly, or say the right things at the right times, but if I can take risks and be okay with them, I know thats what living is all about.
Currently, I am about to finish up my Senior year of college. I made it through Chicago’s harsh winter and I’ll never forget my bitterly cold walks to class every morning. I don’t like the winter because if you have ever been to Chicago, they don’t call it the “Windy City” for fun. I do like snow sometimes, like on Christmas, which is the best. Not because of the presents either, but because I think its the one time of the year where everyone is in an overall good mood at the same time. I like when people are in good moods, because then it just makes everything better. Which is a plus.
I’ve had these two really awesome people by my side ever since I can remember, I think their called parents. Yeah, I was lucky to be blessed with the cool kind. They have taught me basically everything I know, then I just give out advice to others and pretend like I made it up. If I didn’t have my mom and dad, life would definitely be a lot harder than it already is. I actually don’t know who I would be without them. (Well, clearly not alive but thats a different discussion.) I am so grateful to have them and everyone else who has supported me throughout my 19 years of life here on earth.
Apparently I was too much to handle as an infant so my parents chose to just stick with me. Yep, thats right, I’m an only child. I wouldn’t say it was anything special. I mean yeah I got more attention and more presents but I’d say Im still just a normal kid..well kinda. :) As I look back at pictures or watch home videos, its quite obvious there were times where I just had to make my own fun. Most kids with siblings have the advantage of always having someone around. Well, in my case my alone time meant beanie baby circus shows, or writing songs about a mean little boy at school. I developed quite the imagination and always found a way to entertain myself. Looking back, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I think being an only child really showed me that being alone sometimes is okay. Although I am very social and would love to spend every waking minute with friends, when I do have those breaks, I’m definitely okay with it.
I have a dog, and two cats. I like my dog and if I’m being honest, I’m not very fond of my cats. Which is sad considering it was my idea to get them. Funny story actually. I was about 12 years old and living in Kansas City at the time. It was fathers day and a few days earlier my cat I loved dearly ran away. At this time I really liked cats so I took it pretty hard. So fathers day came and my dad took me to the local animal shelter to look at all of cats and possibly consider bringing home a new one. Well to wrap this one up real quick we left with two kittens and a puppy. Happy fathers day right? Well, when high school came around I really developed this strong dislike toward my cats;Who were cleverly named Zach and Frank, if I might say so myself. Yeah I guess thats all I could come up with as a 4th grader. Needless to say, they are great individuals they just aren’t my cup of tea, which is fine because they have each other.
Now going in a different direction. Even if you aren’t musically inclined, I recommend you learn to play an instrument, seriously its like the best thing ever. I started playing the piano at the ripe ol’ age of five. I have been influenced by many piano teachers in my short existence here on earth, probably just because each time we moved I needed a new one. I have always been the kind of person who likes doing things my own way. To shoot straight with you, classical music is boring and has never been my thing. So, I took a break and after about nine years of piano lessons, I needed something new. Luckily a friend of my dads would introduce me to exactly what I needed. A guitar. I fell in love with it. Dave Bruce then became my guitar teacher. Initially we would just mess around on his guitar and he would teach me simple chords and what not. But eventually, I got my own and actually started learning all about it. Long story short, I love my guitar and frequently hang out with it on a daily basis. Which isn’t weird, I just sometimes choose it over my friends.. :)
My most favorite thing to do, is write songs. Whenever I get the chance, I just start to write. Which is hard to do sometimes because being a student in college tends to take up some of your free time. However, there’s never an excuse to not make time for doing what you love. I used to use every excuse out there, but it hit me. If you can’t make time now, when will it ever be the right time? So I always make time for my music because if my words can somehow touch someone in the world, I’ll know that making that time made a difference.
There are so many reasons why I write the things I write. In some of my older songs, the easiest things to write about are now the most unimportant things in my life. Like ex-boyfriends for example. At the time, it probably seems so important right? Wrong! I know, I bet you hear that from everyone, but its really true. We try so hard to make sure relationships turn out the way we want, but thats just not reality. It has taken me so long to really grasp this concept. In life, we’re constantly growing and changing into who we will end up being as adults. And even when were “All grown up”, there’s still so much learning to do. My songs are constantly evolving into new chapters of my life. I try my best to capture each important moment as it unfolds and get it down on paper to share with anyone who wants to listen.
My next mission will begin when I get back to school in the big city. I would love to find some talented musicians and get a group started. Every time I'll write a song, or even have an idea for some lyrics, I always wish I could hear what it would sound like with a full band. You know, guitars, drums, all of that good stuff. So it is my goal to find these individuals with talent and drive and ask if they would be interested in joining me on this exciting musical journey.
Like I said before, I have so much to say and a ton of time to say it. I will constantly be adding and taking away from this “about me” page because I think for me as an artist, I want people to know all about who I am and what my goals are.
